Home visitation helps parents understand child development and connects them to the resources needed to make the best choices for their family. Families with children ages pre-natal through kindergarten receive free, monthly home visits with an assigned Parent Educator. A family’s assigned Parent Educator is there to provide well-researched information to help you make good parenting decisions and provide support for you in times of need. Since this is your child and your family, you set the agenda for each personal visit.
Each visit includes three components; Parent Child Interaction, Development Centered Parenting, and Family Well Being.
Are you interested in knowing more? Contact us and you will be partnered up with a Parent Educator and contacted for an interview.
Parent Child Interaction
The Parents as Teachers model focuses on parent-child interaction- on developing parenting skills that are warm, responsive, encouraging, and communicative. This facilitative approach incorporates the activities families are already doing and builds on them.
Development Centered Parenting
The Parents as Teachers approach not only informs parents about child development (including both the broad sense and specific developmental milestones), but it takes explicit connections between the child’s stage of development and their behavior.
Family Well Being
Within the Parents as Teachers approach is a focus and emphasis on parent/family well-being; on strengths, capabilities, and skills; and on building protective factors within the family.
Strong families provide a healthy, nurturing environment in which parents and children grow and develop together.
Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers is an internationally recognized network that uses an evidence-based model to deliver parent education primarily through personal visits and group meetings. We equip parents with knowledge and resources to prepare their children, from prenatal through kindergarten, for a stronger start in life and greater success in school.
Parents as Teachers promotes the optimal early development, learning and health of young children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. We advance the delivery of high quality services for families through a comprehensive system of supports and innovative solutions.
